I am influenced by the work of many of the great painters from the 50’s and 60’s and admire many of the unique qualities of their art that, until they employed them, would not have been considered fine art. Examples of the way Mark Rothko blended his colors, the straight lines used by Josef Albers and how Jackson Pollock dripped paint, can be found in many of my paintings. Painters, Frank Stella, Gerhard Richter, Ed Ruscha, Julie Mehretu, Sean Scully, Callum Innes and many more have my deepest respect and admiration for their innovations and unique designs.
As much as I enjoy other artists work, I like my paintings to have their own look and identity. I consider my work to be a contemporary version of a mid-century modern style. My technique involves the use of geometric shapes and layer over layer of paint applied with a variety of brushes and other painting implements. Many of these implements have been specially developed for a specific painting or a series of paintings. I create paintings that I like to have displayed in my home, art that makes a statement when you walk in a room, and paintings that coordinate with both mid-century and current trends in modern interior design.
